Easter is just around the corner and these adorable Easter Bunny Twig Ears are such a great nature inspired Easter craft to do with your kids! You only need a few materials and they’re quick and easy to make!
Is it just me or did Easter really sneak up on us this year? The weather has been really nice and springlike lately and I’m excited to celebrate our first Easter in our new house. We always do Easter baskets and an egg hunt for the kids but I also wanted to do a fun craft with them this year. These Easter Bunny Twig Ears are perfect for a fun and easy craft to do with your kids this weekend!
I always love doing nature based crafts with my kids because they get your kids outside and allow them to be creative. My kids loved going outside and finding the perfect little twigs to use for these Easter Bunny Ears. They then get to come inside and arrange them just how they want.
DIY Easter Bunny Ears Materials
- Twigs – I was really inspired to do this easter bunny ears craft by looking at the white twigs we had in our front yard from our cottonwood and aspen trees. They are great because they’re white in color and nice and curvy so they make good ear shapes. You can use whatever twigs you have around though and they definitely don’t need to be white! You could also paint your twigs white if you prefer.
- Cardstock or cardboard – I made these with both a thin cardstock and a thicker cardboard. They both worked well but the cardboard made the ears a little heavier so I opted to use something a little lighter. I actually just used an old cereal box that I cut up and it worked great!
- Pink felt – I love the light pink color of this felt for the inside of the bunny ears. You could also use a different color if you don’t have any light pink available.
- Headband – I just got some multi-colored headbands from Target. These ones had a cloth covering around the plastic but a plain plastic headband would work great too. You just want to make sure the headband isn’t too thick.
- Glue – I used both hot glue and Elmers glue for these Easter Bunny Twig Ears. Elmers glue is great when you have kids doing the crafts but does take longer to completely dry. I then used hot glue to connect the ears to the headband because it’s really sturdy and dries quickly.
- Scissors and a pen or pencil
how to make these easter bunny twig ears
- Go outside and gather your twigs. It’s great if you can find small, thin twigs that have a little bit of a curve to them. I was able to find white twigs but any color will work.
- Cut out your bunny ear shapes from your cardstock or cardboard. I found that small ears worked the best. Mine were about 2 -3 inches tall.
- Next, cut your felt. I just cut mine to fit in the very middle of the ears. You could cover the entire piece of cardboard though if you like. Glue the felt on to the very center of the bunny ear.
- Start gluing on your twigs. Elmers glue is best when allowing your kids to glue the twigs on. It does take a little longer to dry than hot glue though. Glue your twigs on all around the felt and then let sit until glue is completely dried and twigs are secured.
- Use a hot glue gun to glue your ears to the headband. Hot glue works best because it’s super sturdy and dries quickly. I like to use a good amount on all sides of the ears to make sure they’re super secure. Let glue dry completely and let your kids enjoy their bunny ears!
frequently asked questions
- Can I use other nature items besides twigs? Of course! You can use any nature items you like on these!
- Do I need to use pink felt? I used light pink because it reminded me of the inside of a bunny’s ear, but you can use whatever color you like.
- What if I don’t have hot glue? I like hot glue because it’s sturdy and dries quickly. If you don’t have any you can use Elmers glue to attach the ears to the headband, but it will take much longer to dry and you will probably need to hold them in place while they are drying.
- How large should I make the ears? I found that small is best. If they’re really big they will be heavier and have a hard time staying on your child’s head.
- The headband isn’t staying on my child’s head, how come? Make sure the headband fits snuggly on your child’s head and make sure the bunny ears aren’t too heavy.
